About Moses Limelight

… People often comment: “Moses Limelight? What sort of spiritual awakening does this song symbolize? It seem so cryptic…what on earth does it mean?” Well actually, it isn’t all that deep. The second in the trio of songs Billy wrote on his solo sojourn, the music was complete – the arrangement was assembled around the lyrics that came later. At the time of composition, Billy was contemplating a relationship with a certain somebody; recognizing that any potential liaison was going to come with a good deal of complication and the potential for havoc. The lyrics were written around the title; i.e., in the famous story from the Bible, Moses led the Children of Israel (eventually) out from the wilderness. The same was hoped for in Billy’s quandary. In short, it is a psuedo love song… one big request for deliverance from the wilderness.

MOSES LIMELIGHT
Music and Lyrics by Billy Nichols
Lead Vocal by Billy Nichols

Midnight moonrise
Saturday has come and gone
Sunday driver, left my turn signal on
But in the wilderness – where my heart lives
A burning tumbleweed rolls thru
I can’t stop Monday, it comes anyway
I guess this ride was due
But this bus ride for a lost tribe
Needs a driver not a muse, and I know by the hand
To the promised land she could lead me
You’re hired to get me thru

Moses Limelight
Oh, shine on
Moses Limelight
Oh, shine on
Will you, won’t you please shine on

Moses Limelight
Won’t you hear me when I call?
I can keep my head about me
It’s my heart that’s wandered off
But like a lost ball in the tall weeds
I’m hungry for the game
So to you I phone,
‘Cause I’m home alone
And pilgrim is my name
