About Road Song

…Like much of our music, this song developed from a jam at rehearsal one night. As the melody and changes were refined we started thinking that we really needed a hook somewhere, and Danny came to the rescue with the break you hear after the second verse. The lyrics are a synopsis of the travels we have been on and of road trips past and present. Hopefully, this song conveys the fun we have had visiting beautiful and wonderful places, meeting new and gentle people – and of course, it ends with a salute to the gorgeous local sites we have enjoyed along the way…

ROAD SONG
Music by TOLEDO KESCH
Lyrics and lead vocal by Billy Nichols

As my time flies past the window
I watch the center-line go by
I’m just a stranger
But you can listen up all right
Long haul, short distance
It’s a metaphor for life

I’ve seen the green fields in the morning
Smelled the sweetness of their dew
Watched desert sunsets
Enjoyed the magic of color’s hue
But I’m going Memphis
Gonna’ get some attitude

…hello, goodbye, I’ve got to go
…ain’t got no secrets you should know
…L.A., Manhattan to Idaho…

And lord, I’ve been to Oklahoma
But I’m late for New Orleans
I’ve packed all my baggage
To sort it out would take me days
From love I’ve walked on
But I’ll get back there some day
And I’ve loved your daughters
Man, I’ve sure enjoyed my stay
