About The Fan
…There are three songs on the “FOR THE
MONEY” album inspired by a solo vacation Billy took some time
back. Solitary time spent overlooking the ocean; sharing time with
a keyboard and good single malt scotch. This is the first of those
three, the lyrics being inspired by a certain basketball team from
Portland who consistently (at least from a fans perspective) underachieve
– but they’re the only game in town. Frustration. Yep,
hate to love ‘em, but… The music was refined from the
original idea by jamming with the band and everyone tossing something
into the pot until it came to be what we recorded on the album…
THE FAN
Music by Billy Nichols and TOLEDO KESCH
Lyrics by Billy Nichols
Lead vocal by Dan Jolley
I ain’t cryin’
No more tears
I’ve had my share through the years
I ain’t cryin’
Leave no doubt
The house is dark, put the kitty out
I’ve seen it come together
Then it all fell through
Whistlin’ past the graveyard, singin’ to the saints
Some star-eyed child I ain’t
But I ain’t cryin,
I ain’t cryin’
What I say
Want to believe your promise
But not today
It’s like sun without the heat
Yeah, just a bark in the dark
All your wondrous stories, missin’ more than hit
But try and make me quit
I ain’t cryin’
These ain’t tears
But I’m so hungry after years
Of looking at the table
But never getting’ to eat
So finish what you started
There ain’t no one else
You make me hate myself
But I ain’t crying
